Awards & Honours

1. The President's Office conferred the Bharat Ratna award to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee .

4. Poet Arundhathi Subramaniam won the inaugural Khushwant Singh Memorial Prize for Poetry for her work When God is a Traveller.

 5. Major Mukund Varadarajan, Naik Neeraj Kumar Singh posthumously awarded with Ashok Chakra

 6. Rajendra Singh named as the 2015 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate

7. Miss Colombia Paulina Vega - crowned Miss Universe, beating out first runner-up Miss USA Nia Sanchez and contestants from more than 80 other countries.

16. Madhya Pradesh gets national award for excellent work in MGNREGA i. Madhya Pradesh has been awarded the 10th national award for excellent work in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act-MGNREGA.  ii. 74 percent construction of permanent assets has been done through MGNREGA in the state.

17. TVS Chairman Venu Srinivasan conferred honorary citizenship of Busan,Korea for his efforts to enhance friendship and cooperation between India and Republic of Korea.

 18. Veteran Pakistan-born poetess Imtiaz Dharker awarded with the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry 2014 for her latest poetry collection Over the Moon.

19. ‘The Lunchbox’ honoured by Toronto film critics at 18th annual Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) awards in Toronto.
 
20. Tata Steel chosen among 100 most valuable brands in 2014 by World Consulting & Research Corporation (WCRC).  

21. PETA India names ex-SC judge KS Radhakrishnan ‘Man of the Year’.And Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez named as ‘Woman of the Year’.Justice Radhakrishnan headed a bench that passed a landmark judgement in favour of PETA India and the Animal Welfare Board of India, clarifying that bulls must not be used in jallikattu, bull races.

22. Xu Youyu ,Pro-democracy activist, of China won Olof Palme Human Rights Prize for the year 2014 for his strong-principled work for democracy, social justice, human rights and freedom of speech which has universal meaning.The award given annually by the Stockholmbased Olof Palme Memorial Fund of Sweden.

 24. Narndra Modi named 'Asian of the Year' by Singapore's Straits Time.

 25. Canara Bank has been conferred with the Niryat Bandhu Silver Trophy in the in the banks category for its support services rendered for promotion of exports.

26. Entrepreneur of the Year - Dhiraj Rajaram and Chandra Shekhar Ghosh The award was sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank. Since 2012, Standard Chartered Bank has been the presenting sponsor of The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence.

 27. Russian film “Leviathan” by Andrey Zvyagintsev won the best film award comprising Golden Peacock and Rs.40 lakh at the 45th International film Festival of India. ii. Mr. Alexey Serebryakov from the “Leviathan” also shared the best male actor award in the Cimena of the World competition.

28. Trilochan Sastry, Professor in Quantitative Methods and Information Systems, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), has been awarded the 11th  ‘Bharat Asmita’, an honour instituted by the Pune-based MIT group of institutions.

29. Sarbananda Sonowal the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold-medalist, was bestowed with the honour in a function organised in the National capital.

30. United Nations (UN) Women announced the appointment of Indian tennis superstar and youth icon, Sania Mirza, as its Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia. The organisation is dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment.She became the first South Asian woman to be appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador.

31.  Aaranyak, an Assam-based NGO working for the conservation of nature and a Kathmandu-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) won United Nations Lighthouse Activities award for the year 2014.

32. Lahore-based author Bilal Tanweer on 24 November 2014 won the 2014 Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize for his novel The Scatter Here Is Too Great (Random House India).

33. Indira Gandhi prize for peace, disarmament for 2014: Indian space agency ISRO conferred the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2014 in recognition of its contribution in strengthening international cooperation in peaceful use of outer space.


34. Rubber Board wins Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Award: The Department of Official Language under Ministry of Home Affairs has selected Rubber Board for the Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Award (First Prize) for excellence in the implementation of the official language policy for the year 2013-14.

35. Raghuram Rajan conferred Euromoney's Central Bank Governor of Year Award
